This is great reviews from Madogiwa no Totto san about "Haibane Renmei" and "5 Centimeters per Second".
Haibane Renmei
About "Haibane Renmei": This is such a haunting, richly philosophical tale. I remember rushing through each episode wanting to know more about Rakka's past--why she ended up in the Old School and what the meaning behind her fragmented dreams were. Although where she begins her post-cocoon life is neither heaven nor hell, it's not exactly limbo in the Christian sense either. Don't let the angel wings and melded halo throw you off. They are there for aesthetic purposes and not for subliminal religious effect. Nothing is clear cut in this anime. Everything is in shades of grey. It's kind of reminiscent of Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, the way the storyline is veiled in secrecy and as spectator, you're intrigued by the mystery and drawn in. Two enthusiastic ash-colored wings up!
As I - the administrator, Noboru - said earlier, it is great and deep insight. Many thanks, Madogiwa no Totto san^^
I just found, by the way, the website which you can see all episodes of "Haibane Renmei" for free. Besides, it adds English subtitle. The beginning of that is from below url.

Episode 1 through 5 draw Haibane and Old Home, where Haibane live, and Glie, in which the townspeople are friendly and generous to the Haibane, very carefully. So you can get strange feeling like "you've known but you don't remember somewhere or someday". But, from episode 6, suddenly the story gains speed by "an incident", and you reach the ending of episode 13 with no time to breathe.
My personal favorite is episode 5. It is an independent-like story filled with peaceful circumstance in Glie. And you can get a sort of hunch something is going to happen later. If you want to feel "Haibane Renmei" briefly, check out the below url directly.

5 Centimeters per Second
Next is the review about "5 Centimeters per Second" from Madogiwa no Totto san. Completely agree with him/her.
I loved the imagery of this anime. The scenery is just so breathtaking, it pulls on your heart strings. The soundtrack just hits this anime out of the ballpark; it's just so perfect. This may be a good "gateway" anime for people unfamiliar with Japanese animation--the storyline highlights meaningful moments in an mundane life--you'll be relieved to discover that anime is not always a sensational onslaught of surreal sights and sounds that besiege the senses. Relish this drama-anime. This one is truly a gem.
