I just wanted to introduce you "Shunji Iwai" who is the most talented firm-director in Japan. You can get some of DVD of his famous movies by Amazon.com.
Love Letter
"Love Letter"(1995 firm) is: Though her fiancé Itsuki Fujii died in a mountain climbing accident over two years ago, Hiroko Watanabe is unable to move on. After a ceremony marking Itsuki's death, Hiroko pays an emotional visit to his mother. There she discovers his boyhood address in an old high school yearbook, and, on a whim, she writes a letter addressed to her old lover. Needless to say, she is more than a little surprised when she actually gets a response from Itsuki Fujii. This Itsuki Fujii, however, is a young woman working at a library and suffering through a particularly tenacious cold in the snowy expanses of Hokkaido. She also endured three years of classroom taunts at having the same name as her male classmate as junior high student-the same male Itsuki Fujii that Hiroko eventually fell for. Though the female Fujii initially worries that she has somehow been targeted by a lunatic, she and Hiroko begins to develop an odd sort of correspondence. The two begin to piece together their respective memories about the male Itsuki, revealing a love lost and a love rediscovered. (from allmovie.com)
The sentence of "revealing a love lost and a love rediscovered" is exactly correct for its firm.
From Amazon.com, you can get his another firms such as "All About Lily Chou-Chou" (2001) or "Hana and Alice" (2004). Both of them are performed by so cute and talented actress "Yu Aoi"(I really LOVE her). But if you like such Iwai's firms, you should find and see the other one - "Swallowtail Butterfly" (1996).
Swallowtail Butterfly
"Swallowtail Butterfly" takes place in an alternate Japan, in a ghetto where immigrants from all over the world have come to live and make their fortune. The city is called Yentown, and it is much like Tokyo. Sixteen-year-old Ageha, a young girl whose mother has just died, is passed on from person to person until a prostitute named Glico finally takes pity on her. Under Glico's care, Ageha has many experiences with the other poverty-stricken immigrants in Yentown. Eventually, due to a sudden twist in fate, the immigrants are given a chance to realize their dreams. But in doing so, they destroy their solidarity, and have to face their problems separately.(from Wikipedia)
Glico is acted by "Chara" who is not an actless, is a famous singer in Japan. You can see pieces of the movies what I mentioned by Youtube. You will see that and recognize that their music
are so nice and beautiful (I really LOVE them). You can get their OST by Amazon.co.jp, not Amazon.com. Or to search them by 4shared.com etc.
I like Swallowtail Butterfly, Ayumi Ito is a really good actress too. I wish Aoi and Ito would work in another film together.
Oh! you are really famillier with Japanese movie. Have you seen "Nodo Jiman" directed Kazuyki Izutu. It is a debut firm for Ayumi Ito. Ito is so cute as a roll of high school student and sing a song - "Hana" (my favorite song!). I really like it.
It's hard to find subtitled Ayumi Ito films/dramas, even if Yu Aoi is really popular, her films/dramas take forever to get subtitled!
